Mileometer not working R25 TXi

Berichtdoor TallyBaskam » za jun 27, 2009 10:42 pm

Apologies for writing in English; can't find a R25 site in the UK.

Anyway, I recently bought a 1991 Renault 25TXi with the electronic display (showing the miles/kilometres ) working;but today it completely stopped working .
What can I do ? Is it a fuse or something more major like a new unit replacement ?!!! ( i hope not)

By the way, does the car still record the miles/kilometres even if it doesn't display the it ?
Thanks for your hekp. Tot Ziens !

Hello there, I think it't not broken but, the 2 lights from the display stop working and you have to replace them for new.You can buy the at Renault garage and a good electric store. Yes even you not see the miles/kilometres it still go on recording when you drive the car.

Hello Tally

Welcome on our Dutch R25 forum. As I can see, Carlo already did instruct you very well regarding your technical problem. I own a TXi too. In the past I had the same problem which is actually easy to fix with the right new bulbs.

By the way, since a few days we do have a new international section for all foreign reactions. You will find it down below our forum.

Best Regards to the UK and most of all, succes with your repair !

Many thanks for your advice. But is it a big job to get to the light bulbs in the instruments panel ? (Can I do it myself ?)

And one more question; I bought this was car with 100,000 miles (160,000 Km ) on the clock with some service history up to 70,000 miles ,so is this still good mileage for this 1991 2.0 TXi multivalue engine?

Many thanks again. (by the way, it seems the R25 has a big fan base in Holland (unlike England! )

Hi, depends how skilful you are, it isn't very difficult, but I wouldn't call it simple either
Of course you need a good instruction, on this forum it's described in dutch, maybe it can be a little bit helpful
topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=483

Do you have a Haynes manual ? In chapter 12.9 and 12.10 there is a good description of "removal and refitting of the instrument panel"
If you don't owe one, you can find one on Ebay for about 10-15 GBP

EDIT : in my database I found these copies, the first ones are a copy from the Haynes-manual ( first one originally copied by .... jan?? )

Many thanks again for all replies: especially Koen for your detailed reply !
I have ordered the bulbs from a Renault dealer ; and hopefully will them next week to start the repair.
However, a couple of things that are wrong with my new purchase!

I have noticed that there is sometimes play in the steering wheel. The wheel moves very slightly up and down when stationary , any ideas?

The electric sunroof was stuck ,and my friend and I managed to take off the headliner- the electrics and the motor is working but we saw a broken plastic part on the runner with 2 small metal pins in it. Can I buy this plastic part with a new pin or do I have to get a complete sunroof unit ?
Thanks again.
